Rooted in Purpose
EkoMovers was founded in 2009 by two college students from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. Their mission was simple: offer high-quality moving services while making a positive environmental impact. In 2012, the company was purchased by its current CEO, Randy Smith, who immediately connected with the company’s eco-friendly values.
“I loved the name, the focus on excellent customer service, planting a tree for every move we do, and all of the things we do behind the scenes to help others,” Randy explains. With that mindset, Randy has continued to grow EkoMovers into a trusted name in residential and long-distance moving, while maintaining its eco-conscious mission. The company has helped thousands of clients relocate smoothly, all while contributing to reforestation efforts both locally and internationally.
Meet CEO Randy Smith
Born in Bowling Green, Kentucky, Randy has lived all over the country—from Texas and Florida to Colorado and now Ohio. With five grown children and five grandchildren, family is at the heart of everything he does.
When asked about his leadership style, Randy sums it up in two powerful words: Servant Leadership. “In our organization, the leader serves every person who reports to the leader. Our job is to make sure our people have everything they need to do a great job.”
He brings this same philosophy to the way EkoMovers operates. When he’s not running the business, Randy enjoys spending quality time with his family and friends.
A Greener Future: Planting a Tree for Every Move
What sets EkoMovers apart is its commitment to planting trees. For every move completed, the company ensures a tree is planted in partnership with organizations such as the Hamilton County Parks District and Trees for the Future (trees.org). This initiative directly contributes to reforestation, ecosystem restoration, and carbon offsetting.
“We work with Hamilton County Parks in Cincinnati and Trees for the Future to decide where trees are most needed,” says Randy. “It’s always a positive response from our customers when they find out a tree is planted because of their move. Everyone cares about this planet.”
